So I've got the Tracker off the road for a week or so while I try to do everything that I need to before the snow flies.  Hoping to have it 100%...or as close as it ever gets...before the snow and road salt arrives and my pickup goes in the garage for the winter.

I'm going to attach a picture of this dohickey...I think the load proportioning valve?   Sits in front of the rear axle on the passenger (US) side on a bracket attached to the frame rail.  It's leaking out of where the upper line goes into the object.  I can't get it to tighten anymore so I figure there's something else wrong.  Anyone know what these are called properly or where I can get one?
It leaked enough to go from the full line to the fill line within a month or two.

IT'S STILL SQUEALING!  Dammit I hate that!  Last winter I fought with the belts...I'm almost sure it's the alt belt...a lot tightening, loosening, and repositioning them as well as replacing them and never really getting rid of the squeal.  Seems to have to do with colder temps or wetness as all summer it was nice and quiet and now as it's getting colder and raining often the thing squeals every morning on start up and often every time I accelerate from idle speeds.  Last winter during February when it was coldest the thing was squealing LOUD and almost constantly... >:(

Holy crap are the upper strut mounts expensive!  Mine are all rusty but the rubber looks good, think I'll just reuse these at $50 or so a side for new ones. :-X  Replacing the front struts and fought with the things for 3.5 hours this evening to get those crappy strut spacers of Calmini's off.  WTF were they thinking by not using studs or just welding those bolts in place?
A trip to the local welding shop should fix that tomorrow.

I have no HVAC blower except for on high and occasionally on the next lower setting from high.  We discussed this like a year ago but yeah...summer came and without AC I wasn't using the thing much...kinda forgot about it.  Someone recommended a part that I try to fix/replace...apparently this is a common problem...I think...?

My driver's side window has always given me trouble.  When you crank it up the window sort of pulls to the front and then halts upward motion.  Grabbing it at the edge and jerking it to the rear frees it and you can then crank it back up.  Annoying at all times and damn annoying at speed.
I think I know how to fix this but does anyone have any idea how to tighten the cables for the window?  Seems like they'd have to have stretched for this to be happening.

That's all for now.  It's got other issues but these are the ones I'm working on right now.  Well, and a fuel filter but that...knock on wood...shouldn't require any help, ranting, or advice. :P

Take the door panel off, there are window adjustments at the base of the glass where it attaches to the mechanism and where the mechanism attaches to the door. When I adjusted mine I rolled the window all the way up with all the adjustments loose and let the window self center in the correct place I tightened the top mechanism adjustment and the window glass adjustment. I then rolled the window down and adjusted the lower mechanism adjustment so the back of the glass ran smoothly up and down the rear track.

If the cables are loose when you open the door replace the mechanism.

Brake proportioning valve and strut mounts sound like good used items.  Sean at Aftermarket 4x4.com usually has most of this stuff and lots of his parts trucks are 2wd and very clean.  The Heater switch is a common thing.  Get a new one from the dealer / on-line / Hawk Suzuki ect.

Most likely the windoww track needs adjusting as mentioned above.

The alternator belt is a faulty design, many manufactures fell pray to routing a serpentine belt in the v-belt configuration, but a serpentine belt needs to wrap the pulley 160 deg or so.  A V-belt can get away with a 90 deg. wrap because the pulley's are V-wedge shaped and as the belt pulls harder it wedges the belt into the v.

You must over tighten the serpentine belt and replace it often.  I've had great luck with running a cheaper belt as they seem to have more elastacity then the more expensive ones.

Is it the switch or some of the dohickeys in the back?  I seem to remember Uncivilized and others talking about some of the stuff behind the dash and the HVAC controls.

Funny seeing you here and not over there.

The first person who invents a true serpentine system for these things gets my business.

What would make the brake line leak there but be perfectly tight?  Corrosion inside of the threads/

I had a picture of it last year, but I think it's gone now. It's a coil/resistor pack that is screwed into the top of the blower box, right behind the glovebox. If you remove the glovebox, you really can't miss it, it has a 4-wire connector plugged into it, and is held  in with one phillips screw.
I bought a new one from the dealer, cost about $35 canadian. At least with new, I know it won't corrode and break again within the time I own it.

My new belt last year was squeeking the same as yours, no matter how tight it was. Well, I only got about 6 months out of it, it broke about 2 months ago. I bought a new one, but I got the most expensive(Prestone IIRC), rather than the cheapest  ::) Made a huge difference in how I didn't need to have it so tight.

I'll have to take a peak, if I recall correctly I looked back there and didn't see anything like what you guys were describing.  Might have just been me though.  What year is yours?

Yeah, I figure this time I'll skip the NAPA belts and try whatever Advanced or AutoZone are pimping.

u open the glovebox
Press the sides of the glove box 0.5 - 1 inch at both sides and pull it out.
use a light/torch , pull back the seat compleetly.
now if u use the light u will see there is only one cabel going to the black large "heat pipes".
at the end of that cabel is a clip to the resistor pack (white).
undo the clip.
use a philip screwdriwer , and screw out the one screw holding resistor pack.
put new resistor pack in ,screw, clip, glovebox, and say abracadabra sim salabim heat heater heat.

Good luck and godspeed

So is this the:

Quote
Heater Blower Resistor 74290 - 60A30

Got the second one and the solder is cracked and crumbly just like the one in the Tracker now.

Anybody know the GM part number?  Nearest Suzuki dealership is 3 hours away.

Seems that I can get the part from RockAuto and some of the local places can get it.  No one can find it under a '96 Geo Tracker but it's listed under a '96 Suzuki Sidekick... ::)
