Wiring Involved in a Sami 1.6L 16v EFI Swap
« on: November 10, 2004, 05:29:37 PM »
???Haven't done this before (EFI) so I am not sure of what to expect when I start to install the 1.6L 16v EFI into my sami. Have all the needed parts just concerned about getting the wiring and harness etc all properly mounted and connected. Anybody know how to explain this or know where  to get the info. Illustrations would be nice. :)

First off I'd say to make sure you have a factory service manual that covers the engine (e.g. sidekick '96). This will help tremndously in knowing what inputs the ECM is relying upon and what it ultimately does in response.

I've got the Haynes for the Sami and Sidekick and a Sami Service Manual, the donor vehicle is a 9?? Sidekick. I suppose if I'm going to have the 16v EFI in my 87 SWB Sami I have to get the proper Service Manual for the engine.

I've got the Rocky-Road kit for the engine swap, and the complete donor vehicle. The donor vehicle was in a roll over. The boy and I started stripping the body parts worth anything this am and replaced the tires and rims so we could get it off the ground and roll it around in the shop.

Seems that all the damage is to the body, nothing else was bent or damaged from what I can see. With straight rims it looked like a normal vehicle with a thrashed body.

I picked the rig up for the motor only, now I think we may have a  ::)1.3 buggy project on the go as well. Will know more when we get the body off the frame.

What year is the Sami? The easist route for the wiring would probably be a new harness from Trail Tough. I have heard the 16V swap is complicated. :P

I didn't get the Trail Tough Harness, didn't think I would get it in time. Mon, Tues. So we're doing it the hard way. Stripped the harness off the donor vehicle last night. :o What a cluster F^*|removethispart|@U*|removethispart|@#K of wires. One could see why this may be considered a challenge. If I hadn't seen wires before I may have been disheartened.
