head swap
« on: November 02, 2004, 07:17:09 AM »
I have tried to searh around about the topic but i been a litle confused of all the different answers..maybe cause my bad english..(I`am from Norway)

The thing is that i got a 1,6 8v engine on my vitara, and as you all know this is not at horsepower monster..

Can someone answer a few question for me?

1: I have thinkin of swapping my 8v head to a 16v, is that bolt on, or is there something i had to be aware of? how much more power would it get? i think i have about 65 hp or something now :'( :'(

2: I have played a litle bit about the tought of swapping the hole engine to a Swift 1,6 gti i can get cheap, is this engine bolt on my manual transmission, or did i need som conversion kit? is the wireing job hard to understand?

3: is there anything else i can do to make my engine more stronger?

I run my vitara on 32" wheel and need more power, please help me :) :)

please answer on this forum, or send me a mail at thomas.nielsen|removethispart|@2050x.com

you can NOT just put the 16V head on.  The engines(8V 16V) are not really the same.  the 16V had different pistons to clear the vavles,  The 16V had Multiport Fuel Injection and the 8V had Throttle Body Injection and the 16V has alot more wireing.  you owuld need a whole donor Vit to convert to a 16V.  The power gains are only like 10 or 15 HP i think.

P.S.  i run 34in tires with stock gears so i know how you feel ;)

But isn't the 16v better for forced induction? ;D

And yeah, stock gearing/engine plus tall/wide/heavy swampers is no fun on the road :-/.

The 16V head is a bolt on, but you would
need the 16V pistons and a fuel injection
system to go with it, unless you can fabricate
a intake manifold to fit the 8V TBI injection
to the 16V head.

The Swift GTI is a 1.3L 16V engine, shorter
stroke than the 1.3L Samauri engine, but 100
HP Vs 65 or so, The 1.6 8V is 80 HP and the
16V is 95 HP

I want to change the 8V to a 16V head, rebuild
the turbo manifold and get the EFI worked out by
using my MegaSquirt EFI system, which is in the
Trucklet now and supplimenting the fuel for the
turbo in addition to the stock TBI injection

Good Luck

Europe had a 16V 1.6 Swift GTI, something like 115bhp (35bhp up on the 8V). Supposed to bolt straight onto the Vitara gearbox. You would need to use 16V Vitara manifolds. If the Swift engine has a carb then it ought to be a relatively straight forward swap, otherwise you will have the same problems with wiring as with the 16V Vitara engine.
