Electrical blackout

Electrical blackout

My daughter has a '87 samurai.  It had a dead battery and when she went to jump start it, she reversed the poles and "fried something"  I have checked all the fuses, etc, but its just "dead" when turning the key in the ignition.  I have replaced the battery, but don't know where to go! 

Looking for clues!

I don't know if that model has it, but it could be the fusible link blown. It looks like a wire with kinda bulge in it. Usually its one of the smaller wires connected to the battery post terminal. Sometimes it will have writing on it saying "fusible link". Hopefully none of the electronics were damaged.

I would agree that the fusible link would be the first thing to check. May as well just go buy a new one and install it - they're pretty cheap ($3-$5).
If that doesn't work here's what you do next:
1. get a chair
2. get a beer
3. sit in chair and drink beer while looking at the Vehicle
That should fix it. :)

while i was sitting in my chair, drinking my beer, i wondered if the sammies have that fuse block on the fender like kicks do?

'89 kick w/little motor, still got pieces of jeff's pucks, stan's sticks into 4.24:1 tcase, 31x10.5x15's, rear lockrite, kick power steering, some radios(kj6esv), bmw seat, other changes just because. done on the cheap.

usually if you boost a car backward its either the maxi fuse, fuseable link if they have them or you fried the computer....

Should be a link, if you follow the yellow and white wire off the alternator (the charge wire) up to the battery it should be wight in that area, the line should split off and go into the firewall it's that's what feeds the hole rig.  I took the fusible link off and put a circuit breaker in mine

the fuse link will be open or corraded. Do the alternator for sorted / open diodes after u get it running. A competent repair or even some part houses can run that test. This maybe what caused the dead batt to start with, a shorted diode is a draw on the battery when engine is off.

You said 87,so if your vehicle has an electric carb I doubt that the ECM got damaged.......

Hmmm, I think I said "electronics" which can be the "electronic voltage regulator" on the alternator, Stereo system, ect. Don't seem to remember saying ECM.
