Re-gearing will get you 4 MPG & 5th gear back, much better acceleration bla bla bla.

I've got 31" tires on my SJ410, and the only thing that makes it tolerable is the 2" exhaust, hi-flow cat & Doug Thorley headers. I really SHOULD get gears... but... I think I need to sell it to fuel other projects  :'(

T-Case is the easiest, and it gives you better gears for crawling as well.  With 31" tires the 4.8:1 kit would probably be just about perfect.

Are you buying a case with gears in it already? If so - there's probably a core charge. If you're just buying the gears, and installing yourself (I've read this can easily be done with hand tools & a weekend - search for writeups) there will be no core charge. Someone sells a gear kit with the split H (so you can get 2wd low) built in... petroworks maybe?

The core charge is their way of saying "We want your old transfer case in exchange for this new one."  They ship you a new case, and you ship yours back to them in order to get your core charge refunded.  Or you just swallow the core charge and keep your old case as a backup.

Some places, such as Trail Tough, offer to rebuild your transfer case and install the gears for you.  In that case you would send them your case, they install the new gears and do a rebuild, then mail it back to you.
