Since you should be unlocked on the street, it doesn't matter what you put in the front. If you're locked in the front, and need to run 4WD (like in snow / ice) always keep one hub unlocked. You need a non-drive tire for steering in slick-road conditions.

It will be harder to turn your tires if you're locked in front. Solutions: Twin stick, modifying your T-case for 'H' pattern (both of which allow you to switch to 2WD low range, disconnecting drive power to front wheels from the cab, and allowing you to turn easier), or run a auto or selectable locker which will unlock during turns.

Spend the extra money and put a locker up front.  Otherwise you are going to push through all the corners and 4wd will be useless on the road.  That is my view anyway.

So does a lockrite in the front cause steering problems? How about when you're in 2wd with the hubs locked in?

Sometimes it will bind up, but your usually ok.  If your in 2wd then there is no torque on the front end, so the locker will be able to spin free.

no a lockright in the front does not pose issues in 2wd with the hubs locked, a lockright allows the tires to turn at different speeds, just none slower than the input shaft{ negligable in 2wd, it sorta freewheels with occasional clicks] even in 4wd one given tire can rotate faster{ie outside tire or right tire in a left turn} than the driven wheel, its a good setup,
 spools for the front are not good, both tires are locked and cant turn in different radiouses, couses binding and pushing

Thanks for the info, I've got a spool in the rear and I can feel it in the steering wheel. I didn't want to put a lockrite in if it would make the steering any heavier in 2wd with the hubs in. I know it will in 4wd but as long as you're still moving, it's a good day.

hahahah yea 10 -4  forward progress at any cost!, turning is nice though, ecspecially when the trail bends, i dont drive mine on the pavement much at all but when i did i barley noticed the spool, the locker loading and unloading friggin drove me crazy! i pinned that basterd shut, with some extra thrust washers exetra, expensive lesson , shoulda just welded the son of a bitch

I have lockrights front and rear and don't really notice them on the street unless I nail the throttle in a corner or something. Of course I don't have it in 4wd on the street unless there is ice or snow. I love them on the trail. Steering will get heavier, but that's what power steering is for.
