Condensation
« on: January 02, 2009, 07:13:09 AM »
Hey guys, condensation on the inside of my sami is driving me nuts. I have had this thing since the summer and now that it rains every day is really irritating because the condensation never seems to go away. It takes an epic drive to 'dry' it out in there, and even the windshield takes forever to clear without a towel. I dont know if this is just a typical soft top thing or what, but is there any tips or tricks to deal with this? Im tired of feeling like im in a biodome.  ???

Leave your windows down just a 1/4" or so for a breeze. Check to see that your fresh air vent is draining trough the firewall and not onto your floor. Look behind your battery box and see if it's rusted through and putting water on your floor. If the top is wicking, get some silicon spray for tents and spray it.

If you have AC a good type for getting rid of condensation is to turn on the AC unit and switch to recycled air.

I use the old style rain-x on the inside of the windows not the wipes, works good on mine.

On my 02 tracker soft top I had similar problems and what helped a bit was applying a weather proofing spray (i used camping spray) to the outside of the canvas top liberally and it seemed to help a lot.

I had noticed the inside of the top always felt a bit damp and the condensation was a problem but after washing and letting the top dry out thouroghly i sprayed it and it has been better.(feels dry to the touch inside now)

I was a bit concerned about what it would do to the top but then it is getting a bit old and worst case senario was a replacement but it worked fine for me.

I'm sure there are specific compounds that are supposed to be applied to the outside of a canvas top but i just used what I had around.

Aside from much less condensation problems I noticed the top now beads up the water perfectly and the snow/ice doesnt stick to it nearly as much as before.
