I have yota axels, what all else do i need
« on: February 26, 2009, 07:46:42 PM »
So i found another sammy that i bought for the winch and yota axels and planned on parting out the rest, i am going to be running the axles on yj springs. I have a toyota steering box but its the older style not the IFS. What other parts do i need and do i need the U bolt kit from low range or am i fine without. any input is greatly appreciated.

some over the top steering and maybe some flanges from them also for the Sammie drive lines.the right front plate kit looks good to me to match the width of the springs.

For a toy axle swap you are going to need to move the perches in.  The driver side perch is the easy one, the passenger side needs to have a plate made so you can move it over.
I used Skys samurai to toy kit, with some YJ spring and it worked awesome! For 100 bucks you cant beat the price either.
I do have diagram t to make the driver side plate thou

I wouldn't bother putting on the older push/pull style power steering, spend some time looking for an IFS P/S box.  It takes quite a bit of cutting to get an IFS box to fit, i had to cut out and re do my driver side body mount.

Things to beef up the axle, if nothing else i would add knuckle ball gussets.

If you have a stock yota axle for the rear, its going to be centered.  Which means you are going to end up with some vibrations due to the drive line angle.

If you have any more questions....fire away!

Thanks amilla, yah im not worried about the rear as my sammy is a trail only rig. btw your build thread has come in handy on more than one occasion, good work.

Thanks man, that build is still far from done.  Now that i have gotten it to a drive able stage, i have realized that i should have done quite a bit of other stuff to it.

Things that I regret not doing....
Disc Breaks all the way around, Mazda 929 break master cylinder, IFS calipers and rotors.
The man think I should have done was an IFS hub swap, which will give you 3" extra width on your front end.  Then just match the rear with some 1.5" wheel spacers.
And when some spare money comes around some longfields with be next on the list.

Im not sure how crazy your going to get with your swap, but those are all things (mostly the IFS hub swap) that will benefit you quite a bit.

I have what you need to mount toy axles under your Samurai, minus the Wrangler springs and steering . I bought the Shy Manufacturing Wrangler spring conversion kit , front and back , plus the Toyota axle brackets .  Sold my Samurai and bought a Sidekick Sport so I don't need this anymore . I'm asking $280.00 for all the brackets and bolts  in the picture  . But you live on the other side of the country so shipping might not be worth it to you .   I'm in Ca.
