clevis mounts?

clevis mounts?

looking at some different styles of clevis mounts as i have a zuks offroad bumper sitting here and im wanting to put some recovery points on it. i remember seeing a while ago somewhere some weld thru clevis mounts that were done with a 1" hole and then welded from behind.

like that but with a 1" diameter shank.
i dont want to go with just a simple weld on mount as if the welds let go it comes off, if the welds on that style let go it wont go anywhere as its welded on the backside of the bumper.

anyone know of something?

Myron over at Z.O.R. seems to have it together. I'm in line for the next set of bumpers. They're sheet steel tho, and with that kind of possible stress I'd still weld some support tabs on the sides to spread out the load. To keep it looking neat, you can weld them on the inside. Here's some on a bumper I built. There are side tabs bolted ond welded, inside and out.

ok... drill 1" hole in bumper where you want the mount, insert shank of mount into the bumper then weld from the backside around the shank to the bumper then weld the outside to the outside of the bumper.

sort of like a threaded insert.

ok, this might show it a bit better.
so i know of the simple t style bracket that is shown a couple posts above but i want something more clean looking, no exposed bolts holding it on.

this style just has the mount showing with a welded edge, but it is reinforced behind with another weld on the backside of the bumper face.

Gotha.  ;)  Yeah, those are real clean looking. Are you fabbin' them? On anything sheet steel, I'd still at least re-inforce the back. Think big washer added from behind. Also  mount these as close to the bumper mounting points as you can get.

im not making them, i dont have the tools to do so. (simple of i had a lathe and a drill press...)

but i remember seeing a company produce them for just this purpose. a simple way to mount up a strong recovery point on custom bumpers.

I'd still recommend a Lg. "washer" to spread out the load. Register while your there, plenty of great fab info!
