Not sure if my locker is working
« on: September 18, 2009, 05:33:35 PM »
I have never used a locker on any of my trucks before but I just put a easy locker in the front of my samurai and i tested it out in my parking lot in 4low with the hubs lock and it is impossible to steer shouldn't the locker disengage when turning. I thought only under torque the locker would lock both axles.

welcome to the world of ez locker. They are noisey and very street "unfriendly". If you search the forum on ez lockers you will see they are not recommended.

Testing on pavement is crap.

alot of times people will run these lockers with one hub unlocked...until you need all lock. Stop before going into the hole, lock it and once out then unlock it. Keep a spare hub with you.

I'll have to look at the brand but the ones I got seem to hold when they need to and open when you need them too. They weren't the cheapest hub out there and they were worth every penny.

Most of my friends put lockers in the back and left the fronts open. They didn't want to spend the money and also didn't want to get out every time they wanted to lock.

you can get the front to "give" a little with the throttle, hit it and back off, when you back off, the locker might give you some slack, if it's not adjusted too tight.

If its a samurai it will be tough to turn when locked in 4low unless you are driving faster, the slower the harder it is to turn.  This is why many who lock the front do the sidekick/tracker powersteering swap.  I have a friend for 12 years now has wheeled a samurai with a locker in front and no powersteering.  Every time I look back and see him "working out" to turn I just yell POWER STEERING!!!

and your locker is working if you are finding it hard to turn in 4low. ;)

Add a twin stick to your T-case, you can cruise around in 2lo until 4wd is needed.  It makes turning quite a bit easier.
