OK my wise and swarthy Sami guru's....I need some help...kind of long so bear with me....
Long story short, my '88 Sami is sick......Yesterday I was driving down the road and she started sputtering, coughing and finally died on the side of the road. Wrecker trip to the mechanic and here's what he did / said.....
He worked on the carb....Sami would idle (somewhat ) but he said that it was "running lean". When he sprayed carb cleaner in the carb. it would of course idle up but when that burned off it would bog back down. I'll mention here that I do not have a catalytic converter ( straigh through with a cherry bomb). Anyway, back to the problem....mechanic blocked off 2 vacum lines and put some "heavy duty" jet / carb cleaner in the tank. He advised before replacing carb to run this through and see if it cleaned the carb up enough to smooth out. Well...it didn't. Fuel level was fine in the bowl ( sigh glass) so I don't think it is a fuel delivery problem or a filter issue ( but I'm changing it out anyway ).
I've perused most all of the posts on here and have come to the conclusion that short of a carb re-build,( which I really don't want to do ), a new carb may be in order. Thoughts? Suggestions?
Also, since I am "cat-less" what things can I do ( i.e. remove / do without ) since I am not bound by emissions controls where I live?
I have ordered a rebuilt carb from Trail Tough........
If any other particulars are needed I'll be glad to tell.........
