Homemade safari top
« on: August 05, 2004, 11:53:23 AM »
I had an old top with ripped side windows and no back window.  I made a Safari top out of it.  I like this because with the top flipped back it is mostly open, but much easier to close up than if the top was removed.  Plus it provides shade for my son if he rides along.  As long as it isn't going to monsoon I think I'll leave this top on for awhile.  What do you think?

;D We could start a trend, I just
hacked the sides of my old gray
top just like that, I trimmed a little
too much from the front where it
hooks to the hold down, I need to
sew it back on, I think I'll do that
soon, like tonight

You might want to secure the rear bar because once you get moving pretty good, the air pressure under it becomes less than the pressure over it and it pushes down and can unclip the lower support rods from their bases, which will make the rear of the top start flapping around violently and could possibly hurt someone in the back seat...

other than that it looks real nice! ;D
Had a cool sig pic till I changed the text... sigh...

Anyone on here with just a full roll cage? I'd be interested in some pics if anyone has any. Ones of a 4 door would be cool if they exist...

So far I have driven it at 70 mph and haven't had a problem.  I think I will add some straps to it running down to the original rear anchor clips on the back corner though.  That way I can have the extra security if I have rear seat passengers.

Good idea - I have an old and will be doing this.  I'll post pics when it's done.
