on a budget but have engine out replace clutch and pressure plate?
« on: September 23, 2009, 01:58:36 PM »
So I am doing my tdi swap.
I put in a new clutch, pressure plate, t/o bearing about 4 months ago, the acme kit uses the stock tracker clutch kit.
the clutch disk has some shiny spots on it already, the pressure plate still looks ok.
Do I replace the plate and the disc?
On a budget but I refuse to pull this engine or drop the tranny again anytime soon.
Just a daily driver, maybe trail putting, no 4wheeling or hard work.

IF YOU REFUSE TO PULL ANYTIME SOON YOU ANSWERED YOUR OWN QUESTION!
Let me tell you what Melba Toast is packin' right here, all right. We got 4:11 Positrac outback, 750 double pumper, Edelbrock intake, bored over 30, 11 to 1 pop-up pistons, turbo-jet 390 horsepower. We're talkin' some freakin' muscle.

I THINK I DID ANSWER MY OWN QUESTION, ESPECIALLY WHEN I READ IT IN ALL CAPITAL LETTERS WHICH MEANS I YELLED AT MYSELF TOO.
Anyways, thinking about it I found the exedy oem kit for about $120 online, and I'll do the clutch cable too.
I would like to do a centerforce but $260~ just pushing it for a car I drive maybe a couple hundred miles a month around town.

easy friend, nobody was yelling. I always forget about the etiquite some people live by. I write orders w/ the caps on and then I like to click over to zuki and check on things (forgetting to turn "caps off"). I do appologize if you feel I was being unfairly loud w/ you. BUT, you have to admit after reading your post you really did answer you own question. Exedy is my clutch of choice, sounds like a a good price if its plate, disc, bearing, alignment tool and pilot bearing if you get lucky!!!!

I love exedy clutches.  There perfect for those who dont have the $$ to get a centerforce and want something better than stock.  Plus the cost is about same as a stock one, which is why I never understand why people replace there stock with a stock when they could go exedy.
