This link will show you what a moon disc is.  They used to use them on race cars and land spped record cars in the '50's to cut wind resistance or something.

:)that was me, and thanks, glad you liked.  you can get them "spun alu. discs" at JCwhiteney, i got mine off ebay.  and then i found a 4" dia rubber grommet and cut a hole in the front two so i could get to the locks.  here are my pics.

discs were sanded and sprayed with black bed liner. 8)

HLY CRAP!  No kidding that thing looks like total MAD MAX MADDNESS!
You know man, that is one truly original creation.  The flat black paint looks so cool.  Most people just recreate the same old, played out 4x4, mini-monster-truck look.  But man I like what you have build out of your sidekick!

I love the idea for offroading, especially for the front wheels since when the mud gets in there its' nothing but wheel shimmy. But for onroad driving wouldn't that interfere with the cooling of the brakes?

Maybe, but it'd be more aerodynamic, so the money you'd save in gas could be spent on new rotors & pads ;D

would love to see someone do it to match their body color, like yellow or red.

Hey 90 Stomper:

I've been looking more and more at those moon discs.  I like 'em a lot.  Last night I went to a local guy that has been buying and selling wheels and hubcaps since the '60s hoping he might actually have a set of moon discs.  Dude takes one look at my wheel and says hubcaps wont fit on.  Now keep in mind he is old and half blind, so I didn't want to break his balls.

This morning I take a close look at the steel wheels on my '92 Sidekick and '03 Tracker.  The look identical.  Different style, but the same protruding lip and shape.

My question to you is did you have any problem fitting those moon discs?  Have they ever flown off your vehicle at speed and turned into flying saucers?  I really like the look of those discs, but I haven't had hubcaps on a car in years 'cause they never seem to stay put.  So please tell me about your experience with these things.

well he might be right.  as far as i know there are 2 kinds.  the 'mostly for looks' kind like i have, which are pretty much a hub cap, and just snap on.  and no they would NOT fit on my stock rims, they are to shallow, ie. the off set is to much to the out side.  but i have heep 8 spoke rims now and they fit just fine because the offset is 1.5" more to the inside.  there are also 'racing' full moons that are just a disc, and these must be screwed to your rim in 3 spots, which would work on stock rims if the dish of the disc will clear you front lock outs.  done it, its a lil tricky but doable but a pain to get on/off.  and no my 'snap on' ones have never flown off.  i had snap on ones on a street racer and they never came off either.  in fact they are kinda hard to get on, takes 2 hands and at least 1 knee.  hope that helps ;D
