1995 stereo size
« on: November 15, 2009, 05:47:27 PM »
I'm looking at the Pioneer U310BT with sat nav.  Not a bad unit at all and a fully removable touch screen for security.  From eyeballing it it looks like it will easily fit my 1995 trackers dash.  But I'm not 100% sure, The stereo is a "double din".   Judging from factory Geo/Delco radio i pulled out of it that was the size of a small house, i'd say it fits but i'd like to be certain.

What size is the 1995 tracker's stereo opening?

What?????

I'm pretty sure the stereos I put in both my 95 2-door, AND my 95 4-door are single-din units.  Both of my 95 Sidekicks CAME with that pocket under the radio, as did my 97 Sidekick Sport.

My 94 did not come with that pocket and the POS that was factory was definetly a double din.  I got both the stero and spacer/pocket through Crutchfield.

That's BIZARRE!  My 91, my 92, all three of my 95's and my 97 came with the "pocket" and a single-din stereo.

The attached picture shows the set-up in my 95 2-door trail rig, as it came from the factory.  I took out the factory radio, and put in an aftermarket stereo, and put an air pressure gauge where the cigarette lighter used to be, but you can see the factory set-up.

OH...WAIT!  Mine have all been Suzuki's.  It could be that on a Tracker, they did a double-din stereo.  Either one will fit (the width is the same, and the height can accommodate either one).

The stock Geo is a double din unit on the 96, it even shows it in the FSM.

Mine actually has a black plastic plate over the secondary spot for the stereo.  Of course, the aftermarket stereo was not bolted down properly...

All of my SUZUKI's are single with the box under the radio. My question is how do I take mine out? I have swaped stereos on other cars but not a Kick.

HaHaHaHaHa!!!  I'm going through the same dilemma!  I have my new-to-me Sidekick Sport, and I can't remember how I got the stereo's in all my other Sidekicks!  I got a great AM/FM/HDFM CD/MP3/Aux Input on the Front Stereo from Wally world for under a hundred bucks...and can't remember how to get the doggone trim off the front of the radio!

On my 94 I had to remove that bezel that is around the interment panel.  You have to remove the ashtray first and also ther is some kind of catch or screw behind the vents.  Sorry I can't be more specific, it has been like 3 years since I did mine.  Crutchfield has the directions online in a pdf though.

I think Acks Faq has a section on the body.  Not sure though.

On the 96 you need to pull the heater display off, just give it a good tug.  There are a couple screws you need to disconnect.  Then pull out the Ashtray, there are a couple screws behind it as well.  Then the tray should just pull off.
