Mount for Camshaft Sensor?
« on: November 11, 2010, 09:26:47 PM »
I own a 1997 Suzuki Sidekick a 1.8L DOHC 5sp Manual transmission - and in the process of changing the camshaft sensor (after replacing the ECU, I was still pulling codes for it. I'm pretty sure both were bad), the mount that the camshaft sensor's screws go into broke off - at just barely past finger tight.  I wish I could say that I was pounding on it or that there was any abuse, but there wasn't, at least since I picked up the vehicle.

Question is - what do I need to look for to find this mount for the sensor?  Is it something that I can grab off of a different year Sidekick, and what is it called?  I've gotten other parts for the vehicle through Rockauto.com but have no idea what this part would be called - I can't find anything that looks like it, and it's definitely not something that comes up in forums as often as camshaft sensor issues.

Any help would be much appreciated.  Thanks

That part only is available on a 1.8 DOHC engine, not on the common 1.6
engine. Call Hawk's Suzuki Parts 1-888-Samurai and ask them for the part,
they should be able to help you

Thanks for the reply!  I ended up ordering the cam cap with the cam sensor mount from 1-888-samurai. A few places tried to sell me the wrong part, and these guys listened to what I had to say, double-checked it, and the part is in the mail.  You're a lifesaver.  I'm not a mechanic - I grew up farming so I've got some mechanical experience, but I've never done car engine work before.  The rest of the process sounds like it'll be fun, but doable.  I really appreciate the help!
