Suzuki samurai 1.3L trouble

Hello,
Several months ago (late last summer) I started to work on my 1986 samurai and the engine would run great for a little bit and then the rpm's would start to drop when ever I put throttle. It would idle okay but would drop down, I replaced the distributor cap in October and that seemed to fix the problem, it was really corroded on the inside, but now since it is getting hot again it has started to do the crazy rpm dance of death. Once I get it past 2,000 I can hold it in the high rpm range (4,000) but that still makes it impossible to drive daily. Anyone know what it could be? I have driven it for a month or so without any major trouble so could the heat be getting to it? Does something need to be done to the carberator?

If it seems heat related, you might want to check the fuel line routing, and
maybe insulate the fuel line, it could be vapor lock (boiling the gas in the line)

Just a couple of ideas;
1) Have you changed the fuel filter recently? If not try it.
2) there is a engine compartment temp sensor on the firewall which feeds info to the ECM.
    Check the site's Ack Faq's for help here, or a Factory Shop Manual.
3) Check all the electrical connectors to the carb, and all those other sensor/switches also for good CLEAN contacts.
    Also check your ground wires, there are 3-4 of them between the engine/frame/firewall and a short wire at the
    neg. battery post to the firewall.
4) Last, and a bit expensive, If you don't have a sniff test for plates, go to a Weber Carb set-up for Suzuki Samurai's
    and rid your self of all that pollution CRAP !!
