Sidekick Visors
« on: December 16, 2011, 07:18:23 AM »
My '93 Kick 4 door has door that make quite a bit
of noise on windy days.

Has anyone tried one of the window visors kits?? I
am thinking that they may add aerodynamics that would
lessen the buffeting and wind noise.

Thanks

I have some on my 2 door, I can't say that I've noticed much difference in noise. The main reason I have then is that when wheeling in the rain the windscreen tends to fog up and if I have the window open when the car tilts all the water from the roof goes over my leg. The deflectors allow me to keep the window open a little without any problems.

Never tried them myself but, I admit that i have the same wind noise problem. i even tried ti install the wind shield another time and apply silicone seal  but still no major difference.

Mine used to make some noise too, then a friend of mine who's a body man showed me the top of the door wasn't fitting tight against the seal when closed. He opened the door and GENTLY flexed the top of the door in and " adjusted " the fit until it sealed tight. He positioned a small block of wood between the door and door frame to keep the door from closing and then bent the top door frame a bit at a time.
I have window visors too, for the exact same reason as Rhinoman. work great.

I have a set of window visors on my Sidekick. I can open the window about an inch and a half before the top starts flapping around. On the hardtops I would expect you would hear some difference as well.

I have visors too & while they help, this works... with the emphasis on GENTLY!! The welds on the window frame are wimpy & it would be easy to over bend. I think the visors help with the buffeting you get when the window is open going down the road, but most of the wind noise I was getting was from the door seal itself. I do still have some noise from the window seal but not as bad as it was before I installed the visors.

As a "retired" body man myself I did the door bend in
thing. But as Talon said the welds and window frame
are whimpy. I could weld them if I broke them but this
is my "beater" after all.

I have them on my 1 ton dually and love the window
and inch deal. But that truck was never noisy due to
wind like the Kick.

I'll order the visors. I think even with the windows closed
they will divert the airstream a bit and lessen the noise.

I'll keep you posted

Thanks all

Hey thanks for bringing this up Sundance. I recently purchased my tracker 2 door and I notice wind intrusion at the top of the door on windy days too. It's good to know the top of the door can be bent in for a better fit... cuz I was thinking about doing it but reassurance and some warnings are always welcome.
I also found that the weather stripping on the door was basically just set in a groove and was letting more air and even water in (the reason my driver side floor pan was basically gone when I bought it). I fixed that by removing the strip from the top of the door, cleaning out the gunk in the channel and filling it with 3m weather strip adhesive and reinstalled the rubber. It cut the wind down drastically and no more wet floor.
Very glad to know I can bend it the extra 1/8 inch or so to make a tight seal.

Cheers guys! Now if only my window didn't rattle when cracked. One thing at a time...
