Hydrogen Generator for a 1.3?
« on: December 20, 2011, 02:15:09 PM »
Has anyone here used a hydrogen generator with a 1.3 motor? It looks like it might be a good fit for a bit more power and mileage. PK

I got one for sale... purchased it for my 96 astro van only to find out after I got it that they will not work on a fuel injected car, because the computer will compensate for any change that the Generator makes in order to keep the mixture as programed, the only way to make it work on a FI car is to trick the O2 sensor into giving a false reading, this requires screwing with the wiring to fool the programing, putting a resister in line to change how the O2 sensor is reading & I didn't want to risk that W/O the right equipment to keep track of how it's doing.
I have been told that they will work great on Carb. cars, because your not trying to trick the computer,  not sure if you will get more power, as there make to help the mileage

The black one is one that I made, because I was told that putting two in series makes more Hydrogen

you would think that the injectors would cut back on fuel if that thing was working?

The tech info at HydroStar says the computer will always adjust to get back to the original programed mixture. Hydrostar has a plug in chip that will allow you to use your generator with an injected computer controlled engine. What brand is your generator? I found one in my Farm Show magazine by HydroStar LLC at $125. It draws between 11 and 20 amps. The problem with that many amps is it could stall the poor little 1.3 engine!

11 or more amps sounds about right, was not a problem with the van. smaller alt might have a problem though, the tech is right about the computer as the hydrogen makes the O2 sensor think that the engine is running to lean, & tells the injectors to all more fuel, so any benefit you get from the Gen. you lost because of the computer program.... they didn't have the chip when I got mine, so it was cut & splice, don't know the brand name but the float box said    THEHYDROGENSTOR.COM  I paid more then $125, but it's a very well built unit, has a float reservoir, & a filter, HD fuse holder, #10 wire, elect connectors, maybe more would have to look
