I recently changed my mechanical fuel pump but the left bolt is hard to get to. It is leaking oil a little bit from that area. I'm sure it's where the bolt isn't as tight as what it should be. I was told my carb was bad but when I add just a little gas to the carb it starts and shuts off. Well changed the fuel filter and it was all gunked up. Now the filter that was on previously was an inline the filter that I have is like a cylinder plastic filter with one connector on the bottom and one on the front but it doesn't seem to set right but nothing is leaking from it. Any help with this would be wonderful b/c now it just won't start. The reason I made these changes was because it was bogging down and acting like it had no power. It would run sometimes and sometimes it wouldn't.

Not much help but I replaced my fuel pump recently and dont remember having any problems getting to the 2 nuts. It was a bitch trying to get all the old gasket off the head, it's a tight awkward spot. The fuel filter your talking about is toward the rear on the passenger side frame rail right?

Yes I went and bought a new inline fuel filter because the other fuel filter doesn't sit right even though on the pages I've looked at I have the matching one. My gasket was stuck to the old fuel pump nothing was stuck to the block. So that's not the problem. The gasket that I've put on with the new fuel pump is obviously new. It's leaking from the left bottom of the fuel pump. That bolt is hard to get tightened. Even with a socket wrench I busted my hand open tightening evenly of course but to make sure that bolt is tight I busted my hand. I am a female. Going to have to get a mans torch is all I know but I suppose I'm just going to have to take it to a shop and see what's up with the damn thing.
