i recently put new struts in my zuk and NOONE could get me strut boots or bellows i finally went to advance and the gentleman at the counter said he had generic boots and what color would i like them in ! so try advance if your local guys don't have them . i'm not trying to plug advance , but i figure they deserve it  , they were the only ones that bothered to stock the parts i needed !

Make sure to put some drain holes at the bottom of those boots. They tend to fill with moisture and dirt.  I removed the ones that came with my rear shocks, they were always filled with gunk.

Wouldn't it make sense to just wipe them down with oil if you're not using all of your suspension travel?

the idea is to keep the dirt and rocks out of the seal in the top of the strut , right ?

Yep, and in theory that's how it's suppose to work. In actuality more crap gets in and ends up staying there. You would have to hermetically seal everything to keep out dust and moisture, then they wouldn't be able to compress or expand. That's why there's holes in them. Look at modern dirt bikes which see all kinds of use. "Gators" dust boots and other means have been tried over the years to protect the forks and shock shafts from rocks and debris, but eventually they've all gone back to open, uncovered. Some do have a kind of deflector in front of the fork tube, but they are for the most part open.  For one thing, it's easier to inspect and clean them. Another reason is because once moisture and dirt get in, they stay in. The seals and hardened shafts on modern dampers are plenty strong enough to stand up to dust, water and the occasional ding hit from a rock.

Tee off with some tubing from your windshield wiper reservoir and pipe it to the top of all 4 of the shocks!!!
