Project Z
« on: April 16, 2004, 11:57:58 PM »
Hey guys, here a couple of pics of Project Z, the 89 I'm working on.

The custom rear bumper is heavy gauge steel with a reciever hitch. It uses the stock end caps for a nice clean look.  My zukin buddy in western PA made it for me, it's AWESOME! Got the lights at NAPA for CHEAP (much easier to replace than the stockers, the little ones are less than 4 bucks, the bi ones like 7 or 8 bucks)

I'll send pics of the rro style front bumper he made for me once I get it on (I have to install my S/R kit first!)

Lots of work to do still (I got the 87 dash installed but need to do the welding in back, mount the gas tank, swap the seats in from the 87, install the S/R kit etc etc..)  but I am GOING to get it running for GonZookin in June (I hope).

FYI- When those lights burn out you can upgrade to LED lights which last almost forever and the best part is they're bright as all heck. Since I put mine in I haven't had any near misses like I did with the stockers.
Oh yeah they are a little more money. I got mine 2-3 years ago for $36 ea. It seams like alot but if it saves me from one accident it's worth it.

LOL that's the LFH.  You can see the BFH up in the truck, next to the gauge cluster and bin o' parts (look closely). I did graduate from the school of hammer mechanics for sure.

BTW I did crack open the speedo (since 10yr + old cars are mileage exempt in PA anyway) and roll it back to 00000.0  - lots of little parts in there but not rocket science.  I figured the dash is outta the 87 anyway, so those numbers had no bearing the this truck.    ;D

I did price some out on ebay (there are a couple of vendors -search LED + oval) but  :o  :-/   too pricey right now!!  :'( wah!

I am hoping they come down in price over time, they are sweet....

For LED's, you can check your local semi supply store (or truckstop would work too) ,as alot of the truckers are going to them for the same reason. Long life, and alot brighter!

There is one in Eugene, Or. (near me) That has a good selection of LED lights. Haven't checked on prices for a few years though.

Jeff

BTW, I might copy that bumper, or something similar as its exactly what I would like to do! If'n your buddy (and U) don't mind????
