30" mud tire questions...?
« on: April 10, 2012, 05:05:55 PM »
Ok so I am getting more and more into this offroading thing.  After 18 years of my sidekick being stock I decided to add a 2" spacer lift and 225/75 - 15 Toyo A/Ts.
I got the tires first because I really didn't have any plans for lifting it untill I realized I really needed the extra ground clearance for many of the new trails I was exploring.
Now my tires seam to be a weak link.  They aren't that great in the mud, though they are better than the worn out stock size tires i had before.  Plus they look a little small with the lift. :-\

How much difference would a 30" mud terrain tire make?  Will they fit fine with a 2" lift?
Has anyone here made a similar transition?  How did you like it?

I have gotten stuck a couple of times in some mudholes where I was almost able to work my way out but the tires just wouldn't quite dig enough.  I'm thinking 30" muddders would've pulled me right through.

Project Trouble ran 30x9.5 tires with no lift on stock tires.  They rubbed a bit at the top of the fender but worked fine.  With a 2" lift you should be ok.

Flatlander makes a good point though, a locker in the rear will do you wonders in these little rigs.

Thanks Drone, I am thinking about adding a lockrite locker in the rear but I'm just a little worried about it being good for a daily driver.

As for the sidekick, I am really liking this little truck for offroading.  It does pretty good as is but I bet with a rear locker and some 30" mud tires it would really be sweet!

I ran 235/75/15 mud retreads from Treadwright on my old Tracker.  They were cheap and worked great.  I had no issues with them.
