So I missed my Sami so much, I just couldn't pass on a recent deal. I bought a 2000 Chevy Tracker. It tossed a timing chain so at the very least, the motor probably needs a rebuild. I plan to start with pulling the motor and tearing it down to inspect the damage. Any recommendations?
Go with a stock rebuild or can you trick these little babies out? What tricks can be done without breaking the bank?

Assuming the drive train is OK, I plan to move on to WARN Hubs and maybe a 2" cheapo lift.
If she looks promising then I plan to get serious with bumpers, new top, carpet, rhino lining and other cosmetics to make her look mean!

Assuming the 2000 relates to the year, you could actually have one of three different vehicles - with your choice of 1.6 or 2.0 4 cylinder engines or a 2.5 V6 - you mention a tossed timing chain, so that eliminates the 1.6, what exactly do you have?

There's not much available by way of hop ups, it should be possible to bolt a 2.3 from an Aerio in place of the 2.0, or a 2.7 from an XL-7 in place of the 2.5.

It's a 2.0L DOHC motor. I suspect it's about as tricked as possible from factory unless expensive options are done like porting and polishing or turbo add ons. Just thought I would ask.

And as suggested the Aerio 2.0 puts out 20 hp more than the Tracker 2.0.  The aerio 2.3 is 155 hp.  These hp increases probably come in little changes to components lite cams, FI, exhaust, & computer.  There may be no net benefit to just a mechanical swap. 

But if I needed to change out/rebuild a 2.0 head, I would grab the whole assembly off an aerio and hope for a little more hp.  First compare head gaskets for compatability.
