95 2-door Tracker Window Regulator Replacement
« on: June 10, 2012, 01:24:45 PM »
Hey, guys! Long time no see! (I'm now Ira7 and not just Ira, because I had to re-register.)

Anyway, my ride is still going strong, but my driver window is screwed up. I got a new regulator off e-bay, but I don't have a CLUE on what to do. I popped off the interior door panel and was shocked to see just a few holes in the body of the door--I thought I would see a huge cut-out which would make replacement a cinch.

Can anyone give me a CLUE on what I'm supposed to do here? Of course, I pray for photos, but I doubt God would answer this prayer.

Also, I'm ready for a new top. I got a few years off the last one, and it was crap. However, my rear trim to tighten down the side windows is totally shot, and you can't find this trim ANYWHERE. What are guys doing to fix this problem? I found a thread here where someone is using latches, but it wasn't very specific.

But first things first--this window is driving me crazy. For 6 months, I've been using a suction cup to keep it from dropping/lowering, and then removing the cup to lower it a few inches to get some air in the truck. It doesn't fall all the way down without the suction cup, just an inch or two, but I knew I needed a new regulator.

Thanks for your help!

oversimplification, but-

remove door panel
position window so you can remove glass from regulator
remove glass thru top of door
remove regulator

looks worse than it is.

On Edit:
you may /may not have to remove glass, but you do have to separate from reg.
look at the new reg to see which h-ware to release the old from door shell

That's what I can't figure out.

The new regulator has a small metal plate on it with two screw holes, and I assume this is what's attached to the glass. But does it actually attach?

Also, how the heck can you get the glass out? When you say position the window so I can remove the glass, do you mean lower it so I'll have access to screw heads that I'll then see through the door hole(s)?

Mind you, I only looked at it for a few minutes last week, but when I pulled the panel off to see what's what, all I saw were a couple of holes to get access to it. I think I read SOMEWHERE here that the thing will indeed squeeze into one of those holes.

Here's the unit I got, and thanks again for your help:

I got all my answers, so no need for anyone to waste their time explaining it now.
