16V/8V ECUs

16V/8V ECUs

Does anyone know if the 16V and 8V ECUs are physically interchangeable. I know the mounting brackets vary (mine is on the (UK) drivers side) but are the connectors the same? I am wondering if the 16V is the same but with a few extra connections and different firmware. I am designing new (reprogrammable) internals for an 8V and would like to produce a universal design (with different firmware) if possible. I saw a picture of a 16V one on eBay and it looked pretty much the same connector, which got me thinking

No - They are different.  The 16V is a multiport fuel injection.

Like I said, I know that but what I'm asking is are the boxes and connectors the same?

Um well I don't know for sure but I doubt you can use the same mounting hardware. or wiring harness/conectors.
the 8v is throttle body injected and uses a map sensor .  the 16v is port fuel injected this means  3 more injectors to fire  and it uses a Mass air flow sensor.

I wanna know if there is any fuel econemy gains swapping over to a 16v

Thats true but the MAP/MAF issue shouldn't be too difficult to resolve, I can track for both then only fit one set of components for 8V or 16V. Its a pretty simple software change. The 16V I assume is batch fired and so only needs one more output, which could use one of the unused pins. I guess I'll have to take a trip to the breakers and cross reference the pinout.
You'd have to save a lot of fuel to pay for the swap to 16V

 No, what you are asking won't work. The cases and connectors are completely different.

That may be a bad assumption.  The 16 Valve has four injectors, and if I recall correctly, each has a separate output on the ECM.

A 16V version will be a long way off. I'll have to get my hands on one and try and get the FSM  for the 16V on CD. There was a site where you could download manuals but I tried it the other night and it seems to have gone
