Quick 87 samurai carb question..
« on: August 05, 2012, 01:18:30 PM »
Hi I'm having some issues that i am trying to troubleshoot.

I hit a good sized pothole the other day and the sami instantly started to run horrible! NO power when i stepped on the gas. If i didn't let off the gas it would stall. It would idle fine though.  After about 5 attempts to take off the problem cleared up and it ran fine for the 3 mile trip home.

The next day i left home and after about 4 miles i hit a little bump in the road and it happened again.. i could only get up to about 25mph on flat ground. Luckily i was 500 feet from a relatives driveway and i pulled in there. This time it isn't clearing up.

I checked the plug wires and they all seem fine. air intake it clear, exhaust is clear. I pulled off the air filter and lifted the choke so that i could see down in the barrel and pushed on the throttle and the first jet sprayed great, but nothing from the second barrel.

Now my main question.. Both barrels should not spray at the same time correct? The second should spay at a specific rpm right?  Also i think i read somewhere in the past that the second barrel is activated by vacuum, which can only happen while the vehicle is actually moving down the road. Is this true?  Is there anyways to check if the second barrels jet is plugged because no matter how high i rev the engine the second barrel won't open and spray.  Thanks.  BTW i am not a mechanic whatsoever, but i do understand common sense.
