rock block on daily driver?
« on: April 05, 2004, 09:14:11 AM »
i am thinking of adding some type of second t case on my samurai and i was wondering if any one is running a rock block. I still drive mine on the road and would like to know if anyone has any comments on the trail tough rock block.

i would really like to know how bad it vibrates if you don't line up the U joints, and how big of a pain it might be to line them up.

dont know about the Rock Block, but OTT's Kicker3 marries both T-cases to a tracker transmission and is a good option if you have a 1.6 engine. Since its all one unit there is no vibes. Its only $600+ the cost of a tracker transmission.

yes i know but i can't find a good tracker 5 speed tranny and t case in the south east for under 800 dollars.

that kinda makes the cost sky rocket.

but if i could find one i might do that instead.

I can't give you an answer, however, you should check out the thread I posted "Klune drive v. 2nd t-case."  I haven't decided which way to go either. :-/ I like the idea of simply placing some type of intermediate t-case that is a simple bolt-in. I would think this would be the least likely to cause other drive line problems. I am waiting for some reports from Moab before I decide. ;)

I had a 410 in mine with the 16 valve it lasted about a day! The rock block has it's own cross member so it should help to spread out the torque to the frame, and if your engine and trans are not dropped down the block should go right in!

okay i called brett he said it will vibrate a little and it vibrates the most at like 55 then it will stop.

the neat thing is you can take it out in like 20 minutes and put a intermediate shaft back in and it is like factory.
Also there is no cutting or hammering on the trans tunnel to make it fit like the ott.

as far as the 410 case do you mean put it between my factory case and tranny, "have seen this it look ugly but it can work." Or do you mean replace my case with a 410. I already have a rocklobster and 5.12 r&p.

My recommendation plain and simple, is to do the kicker3 and deal with the transmission tunnel. If you need the kick trans and core t-case, pm me, I have several for WAY less than $800! ;D
