Just bought a 92 Tracker with a little surprise..
« on: July 08, 2005, 05:03:51 PM »
Greetings All,
Its a 92 Tracker Vert with a 350 Chevy, and 700r4 tranny.

I am very new to these trucks, so bear with me.  I traded for this thing just to have something to play with and to embarrass all those sport cars around town.

The engine is a freshly rebuilt 350 supposedly pumping out 300hp to the wheels.  Needless to say, traction is fruitless without a set of street ETs.  I will blow the stock diff to smitherines if I put the ETs on the truck now.

So, I need some assistance in finishing this thing.  First, is there anyone in the st louis, MO area that knows a cheap place to get parts?

Here is what I need in the short term:

9 inch ford rear end,  preferably one already out of a Tracker/Kick so I can just bolt it in, or can someone guide me to a rear diff that is close.

Need a Hood.

I will also probably have to lower it, so where I can get a good lowering kit would also be helpful.

Any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated.

I can get some pics put up in a day or so.  It isn't very pretty right now, I need to fix the body and give it a "nice" Maaco Job.

Check out Suzuki1.8's post about the lowering kit.  He has a sidekick sport, but I bet wherever he got his kit also offers one for yours.  I dunno about the practicality of a Ford 9" in a Trackick that is gonna be lowered, not lifted.  Try and check info on Mike Hagens truck on this site http://www.zukiworld.com/month_070103/feature_hagen_ford9inch.htm ,  or just search for "ford 9"

I would look for the lowering kit on Ebay

I would run the stock rear until it gives.  I see a weight / traction problem.  Axle shaft should be the first to go.  If it is a street truck I'd break it first it might supprise you how much it will take.

Many if us are running 4:1 t-cases and locked rear axles.  This should get the torque multiplication numbers up around the 300hp level.

I got my lowering kit a drivewire. But the only problem i see with lowering yours is the springrate upfront my not be enough to handle the extra weight of the engine. the good news is that when i lowered mine i found out it doesn't matter the year off sidekick as long as your replacing springs there all the same whether you have a sport or not. and the camber kit is availble through differnt sources.

Thanks guys for the tips.  Here are a few pics of the beast.  Since these pics I gutted the interior to discover some nice holes in the floor, and I have to "re-engineer" some of the previous owners wizardry(for example: ran the gas line parallel to the exhaust)

Dude you have to send us a burn out video of that thing! I do the "one tire fire" on my stock 91 auto hardtop hunk-o-junk all the time.  It's a blast.. Usually occurs on the way home from the bars!  That would be a kick in the pants to drive!
I think a toyota axles are a good fit for the rear and they are pretty tough too.

I built a S-10 with a 350 (not to bad) then raced a chevette with a 350(kicked my bud hard)

My addvice would be to find or build the rear end as it won't last long then buy some wheelie bars ;D ;D

I rode in the shovette after, those things are way to short and lite for that much power(like yours) 8) 8)

PS don't buy slicks, no side wall strengh, short vehicles squirm all over with them

My .02 Steve :)
When this thing hits 88 MPH your gonna see some serious sh!t (hahaha)

The rear end is in the works.  Didn't think about the slicks aspect, thanks for the info.  I will probably have to go with ETs.
