More Locker ?'s
« on: January 12, 2004, 06:22:23 AM »
I have been speaking and emailing 3 different aftermarket dealers and I am really confused.  I want to put a locker in my rearend, and I don't want to switch to Toyota or Sammy to do it.  I spoke with Roadless Gear and they said that the locker they sell is interchangeable with the Sammy and SJ410.  Hawk Strictly said that was not possible, and didn't believe there was a locker available for an SJ410.  Rocky Road says they have one for the SJ410.  Has anyone done anything like this?

Im pretty sure that the sj410 is a seperate animal. I dont belive that the sami locker will fit.

Sammi locker won't fit a 410. There was a cable operated factory locker but I'm told it was designed more for parking. Pity as theres one on ebay (UK) at the moment. I also understand that 413 and Sammi lockers aren't interchangeable although you can change the whole diff.

Edit: A look around the web shows that front and rear Lock-Rights are available for the 410. Central 4wd.com?? list them seperately from Samurai items.

I really appreciate y'alls help.  I think I am going with the locker made for the 410.  Or I could get the 413 complete axles and then a locker.

I think you would want the Samurai axles not the 413 axles. As I understand it the 413 is actually the same width as 410 but has the 1.3 liter engine. People use the SJ413 name interchangeably with the Samurai but they are not the same.

Thoughts? Comments? Am I incorrect? :)

I spoke with the guys at Hawk and they said that the 413 had the same width axles but the 413 uses the Samurai size gears and so on.

I think the 413 axles also have the same mounting points as the 410 axles although the 413 axle tubes are a bigger diameter and need different U bolts. To fit the Sammi axles you would need to do some fabrication. Over here at least the 413s and Sammis had different final drive ratios though they are interchangeable.

This is true for sure. I've been building an '85 SJ410 for some time now  ;) and it has a stock Samurai front end and a Hawk Sidekick Hybrid rear. The spring pads on the axles had to be moved more inboard to mount up with the 410's spring width.

my buddy has an 85 and i thought he said it was a sj413
SAMI  he has front and rear lockrites .and i thought the axles were narrower his passenger side front leaf sits partially on the differentail when we did the spring over we had to fab that spring-perch the rest he bought from breeze industries . i thought 85 and later the leaf springs mounted out closer to the wheels  not partailly on the diff .anyways i know he has front and rear lockrights with 5.13 gears .

I think the Sami is also a 413. Just to confuse things further the early 1.6 8V Vitaras were SJ416s so if you follow that logic then the even earlier Vits/Track/Kicks with the 1.3 should also have been SJ413s ??? ???
