Well I started a search of the forums, hmm, 276 topics to look at lost me. What my problem is the fuel pump works when it wants to. When you go to start the 1.6 16v the in-tank pump may or may not kick in, in time it will (a bunch of turns of the key). Once it starts it runs fine for a while but it may kick out again (could be 5 min could be hours), when it does there you are out in the middle of nowhere turning the ignition on and off until the pump kicks in again. I am not sure what the problem is, could it be a wiring issue, solenoid, ecm, other???

Help!!!!! I don't like the idea of a 90 mile hike. No one else has a rig that will go on the trails the boy and I take with the Sami so we will need to walk if it dies completely.

Well, could be a number of things, but check the most obvious/easiest things first. I would check the fuel pump relay, it might be going bad. I would also check the wiring just behind the driver's tail light. There's a harness plug back there that sometimes gets corroded. If that checks out fine, then check the wiring at the pump on top of the tank. It might be making a poor connection.

I'll check out those out. Was wondering if a little moisture may have an affect on the relays etc. They may have gotten damp a few weeks ago. A creek that we had to cross coming down the mountain came up about three feet after we had gone up the mountain. The only things out of the water in the cab were higher than the shifter knob. I know it had an adverse affect on my cobblers, that water was coooolllldddd!!!! They ECM was high up under the dash so I don't think that it got damp, but the relays may have.

I'm not sure where the relay is located on a 16v, but on my 2 8v's it's right beside the ecm, so if my ecm stays dry, so does my relay... But moisture could certainly cause corrosion or even a short in the relay..

i'm wit digger on this one .. always check the simple chit first,,, like loose wire... so far it's always been ta=hat wire behind the tail light,, clean it up or replace the pigtail, and use die-electric greese.. that stuff will helpyou keep your sanity .as far as i'm concerned..lol
