Tracker 2000 tranfer case switches?
« on: December 03, 2003, 04:52:51 AM »
My first post, HI.
I recently installed the Calmini 4.23:1 Transfer case gear set to my 2000 front solid axle tracker. It works impressive on the trail, BUT, there’s always a but. In some conditions I need more speed. Am I wrong or the OD shift is not released by the transmission while in 4low  .  ??? If so how can I by-pass the signal/switch that goes from the transfer to the car Computer which switch is it it has 2, is this recommended or acceptable?
Thanks and regards from sunny Mexico.

I have the CALMINI cogs too, and can turn the OD on and off in low range.

HTH,

btw- spill the beans on your SAS conversion.  What axle did you use?  Got any close up pics?  Inquiring minds want to know. ;D

This lack of low range speed was my concern,
I think 4.24:1 is too low, but there is no other
gear set available.

I want to see a 3:1 or 3.5:1 set, also no case
grinding to get them to fit the case.

Could be the OD is just not enough to give
you the extra speed you want, and it is shifting.

Just a thought.

I've often wondered what it would take to double up a t-case out of a sami.  I've seen it done with two sami's but I bet I could be done with a Tracker and a Sami.

That would give you all kind of low range combo's.

Do note that the front and rear outputs for the Sami divorce t-case is offset to the right side for both of them. The rear output of the Trackick t-case is centered in the vehicle and the front output is down and out so it's not in horizontal alignment of the output.  This plays some in using such combination.

I've seen that Nissan uses a driver's side front output and center rear output to their t-case. If, and it's a real big IF, the same manufacturer for the Nissan case is the same for the Suzuki, then it may be possible to mount a double case together using custom adapters. Suzuki tranny, adapter, Nissan case, adapter, Suzuki case. This way, the front output is not in the way of the final t-case front output. (However, there have been some pics of the double case using the Sami t-case, custom routing of a front ds to get around the front t-case.)

One thing to note here is Suzuki owners have different types of vehicles. So what works for the Sami crowd may or may not work for the Trackick crowd and now the newest model of Suzuki Vitara (US models).
