An inexpensive way to your problem is to get an altima yellow top battery and a strike cap, capsitor for the times when you need more power. Ask any automotive stereo installer and he'll say the same thing.

the cap id need would cost about 300-400 bucks and the cap would make my small alt problem even worse because then my alt would be straining to keep up the sub AND recharge the cap with the music i listen to id drain a cap in the first 30 seconds of a song so then there would be more load on the alt for the rest of the time

but u think a batt would help? wouldnt i just drain the battery? i dont understand the battery thing like how to have more then one and stuff and how more then one makes it so i dont run the started battery down since they are all connected together

No you got it wrong.  A cap is not a drain on your system,  a cap is strictly like surge protection.  It function is to keep woltage from changin.  Thats why they use it with a bridge recifier to change ac current into a real steady dc.   When your subs start pounding, the whole charging characteristics of your car changes.  The cap just smoothes out the sudden large draws, allowing your alternator to charge at a more even continous rate therefore not creating such a strain.   More caps will not affect your car in a negative way.   Your car will even start better because now you have a cap thats keeping your system voltage higher when youre starter is trying to start your engine.   Mind you it is not fool proof.  Once you get to a level that your stereo is drawing more amps on average that your alternator can supply you still are going to start draining your battery.   Now really, how long do you want your system to pound for, other than impressing chicks.  I been through that phase and trustme, you get hearing damage pretty fast.  Now I have two 12subs in my basement that I dont use

One more thing, if you need a bigger alternator because you have a winch and a 2500cca battery then I'm absolutely with you, then you would need a bigger alternator.   Something else you could do is measure the battery tray and buy the absolute biggest battery you can shoehorn in there.

I had the same problem you do, what I did is went with a Extreme Duty ambulance altenator and had a bracket built by an altenator shop, then I went with a blue spiralcell deepcycle battery. And waahlaa no more power glitches. Now I can sit with all my lights on stereo blaring, sub- woofers thumping and amps pumping the juice all without the engine running for 3 hours and still have enough cold cranking amps to turn the motor, and on the drive home the battery is charged up and ready to do it again. Total cost altenator & bracket 750.00, deepcycle battery 250.00 . Champagne pocket book is a must!  Since I take my toy around to car shows, I like it to be nice and no Mickey Mouse.  ;D
