It's almost time for gears - what do I need
« on: July 31, 2005, 06:50:52 AM »
I heard some tcases dont work with the gear upgrades, I have a very worn 93 sunrunner and a good 91 tracker tcase, how do I know if I can do the 4.4:1 upgrade? I think trailtough still has the 4.4s for $649.   Also, I'm thinking of an auto locker for the back, will it work with the 93 diff and which is better, detroit or lockrite?  Auto locker for the front?

I know the 93 T-case will work
not sure about the 91 tho

Loc-rite is good, just do the rear, an auto
locker in the front is tough on parts.

Detroit has a locker for the Track/Kicks ???
Or is it like the loc-rite ???

The detriot is an "ez-locker" so essentially the same as the lockrite.

I'm running one of those lunchbox lockers in my front, beatin the rig pretty hard, and no breakage (yet!).

locker that fits in the carrier (as opposed to replacing the carrier).

Some lockers replace the ring gear carrier (e.g. ARB, full detroit, complete spool). Some fit inside the existing carrier (e.g. mini-spool, ezlocker, lockrite) ... since they latter "fit inside a carrier", they get referred to as "lunchbox".

I see.  sounds like I need a lockrite for the front.. how is it at highspeed (lol) highway cornering?  does it ever lock up with the hubs engaged?  Just asking, cause in winter when it's 8 inches of snow on the highway, I like doing mach 3

they take a bit of getting used to on ice, snow or deep snow no prob,I would get an arb in the rear and loc-rite in the front and just do two wheel drive if you have studs.
