5spd to Auto Swap? How hard?
« on: September 19, 2005, 02:20:16 PM »
I'm still wanting to do the XL-7 swap and was thinking that since its hard to find a 5spd/4x4-XL-7 that I could swap the auto into mine while I'm in there.

How hard would it be to swap the whole engine/auto into my 5spd Tracker?

I'm wanting to buy the complete XL-7 too NOT just the engine/trans.

On every automotive forum that read a post like this (manual to auto swap or vise versa) the usual conclusion is that it's cheaper and a lot less trouble to just sell your current vehicle and buy one with the trans you want.

I guess I didn't really answer your question though......

I am paying-off my Tracker with our income taxes coming up. So really it wouldn't be any cheaper. I don't want anymore car payments.

This is out only vehicle at this time and she can't drive it cause of it being 5spd.
We are planning on buying a second car too with the income taxes/my work bonus.

She has been talking about letting me do the engine swap after we buy her a car and pay mine off. So I figured I'd swap the trans too so she could drive it if she had too.

If you want to say with man. trans you could just use one from a GV it will bolt right up to the 2.7 from the XL-7.  Other wise you are looking at alot of work

I would like to keep the 5spd so it would be easier. Didn't think about the 2.5 bolting up. But that also means finding and buying another trans.
