Disel conversion, options.
« on: September 16, 2005, 03:34:36 PM »
Ok I have looked at VW kits and I know that option is the only Kit type,  however I haev been looking and found that there are some small diesel pickups that are RWD,  I am asking maby ZAGGY or someof the candian members if they can spot an older Nisan - Datsun - Toyota PU that is disel and rear wheel drive, i am looking for somthing in the 4cyl range preferably turbo. But  if the Sammi has a divorced Tcase, then one could take the motor - tranny makes some mounts and a few shafts  and have a cheeper desil conversion.?

anyone have any thoughts?
All things must start and end, the key is to not let them start and end in the same place.

The Toyota and Nissan diesels you are referring to are real tough to come by, being out of production so long hardly any are left and usually real (comparitively) expensive when you do find them.

But not to dismiss your idea (cause I think it's a good one), try finding a 220D or 240D Mercedes with a four or five speed trans (they also came with a 4spd auto)

You can find rusted out cars complete for less than the cost of etheri of the other diesels, they have more power and Mercedes can get any darn part.
You would need to use a sammy case, make all the mounts and a couple of driveshafts but I think you would end up with a real good ride!

There are also diesel Chevettes, Peugots, and a couple of others...can't remember names right now.

Really i am looking for a rear wheel drive disel Vehicle, "i llike manual trannys" And i like the sound of the Turbo on thoes little disel motors"  i can use a divorced tcase  and get new shafts, but I am at a loss as to what Vehicle i should look for.   doesnot have to bo a truck, just a rearwheel drive,  and i like the mercades motors,  Humm

Peugeot 1.9TD and 2.0TD and Mazda 2.0TD have/are fitted as OE in various parts of the world (inc. UK). AFAIK the 2.0TD Peugeot is the only engine option remaining on the old shape Track/Kicks and is fitted in the newer shape too. Got any Spanish relatives?

Also when you are thinking of a diesel motor to swap in you have take into concideration of the availablity of parts incase something breaks.. I heard you want to say away from the mitsubishi diesels, they have iron blocks and aluminum heads, so they have over heating probs
