Weird weird problem
« on: March 21, 2005, 02:24:46 AM »
Hi all,

I have this very weird problem with my track/kick/vit. Last Friday it wouldn't start, it turned over but didn't fire up. ALso there was a rattling noise from under the dash. The rattling noise was a relay under the fuse box. I plugged it out and in again, now this didn't rattle anymore but there was a rattle coming from the engine bay (wich was there also when the relay rattled) it was these things

I tried to fire it up a few times more and after 3 or 4 times it started  :o WTF  ???
But when I push the throttle in it will be just as if the engine is of for half a second and then it revs just fine  :-/ I read out the failure code of the computer and it said ON, that'd be a ESE failure (in German).
When the motor was running for a few minutes (with me revving it and listening if I heared any other strange noises) and warm up a little bit it ran very low on Idle speed, about 200 to 300 rpm  :o
Is there anyone out there who has any Idea what this can be I am really very puzzled about this  :-[
Thanks for any help.

Those valves are in a different place to mine but one of them is probably the EGR VSV (Exhaust gas Recirculation Vacuum Solenoid Valve) and the other the Throttle Opener VSV. You should be able to tell by following the vacuum pipes back. One goes to a valve on the back of the throttle body that pushes the throttle open a little from the stop. The other goes to the EGR also round the back of the throttle body. Power to the VSVs is switched by the main relay so if that is tripping in and out so will the VSVs, I would check all the connections in this area.  The Fuel Pump relay is also off this supply as are most of the other solenoids. My FSM shows this supply as a blue/black wire.
I have lots of info for the earlier 8V TBI Track/Kicks but I've just discovered that mine is very different!! Not only is the connector different but I have a stepper motor where the wax thermostat air valve usually is and I have no coil either!! Just to top that apparently Santana have never released any information for these models in English  :(

Rhinoman is right on about the solenoids!  My '92 had the exact same symptoms as yours when the ECM went bad.   :(

So I tried something today, I unhooked the battery and the ECM was reset. It fired right up and it even rev'd fine but when you release the throttle it stutterd again   :'( and the check engine light flikkered together with the stutter.

I have a 4u2 Vitara which is basically the same as the early 8V TBI Vit/Track/Kick but with an 'updated' ECU. Theres too much stuff to send. The FSM has 120 pages on the Fuel Injection alone and I only have a paper copy. In addition I've been doing a lot of work on mine. If yours Japanese built or Spanish built, if its Japanese then it will probably be a lot closer to the manual. Someone posted up a link to some info on suzukiinfo.com when I was asking about schematics. It has a very good diagnostic article that should help you, it replicates a lot of what is in the FSM.
