Smoothing out the ride with the Calmini 5in. lift kit
« on: October 27, 2005, 03:41:33 PM »
Hello everyone:

I just installed a Calmini 5" lift kit. (it was tough for me)
The RIDE SUCKED!!!! It was WAY too harsh and stiff to drive on the road.
I FIXED the stiff ride by removing the 3rd leaf from all the springs (The one with bent wraps)
This made my Samurai ride very good on the street, and the suspension actually articulates
and funtions better off road.
The Calmini springs won't flex to give you maximum suspension travel until you
remove at least one leaf from the spring set.
I might remove the 5th leaf as well (small) on the rear too.

I would take your shocks off first and give it a couple of good bounce's and see if it is the shocks or the springs, I had to replace there three leaf set the first time out so be carful taking too many leafs out. if you want flex go spring over with rears up front.

I did the 3.5" lift kit. The springs wore good in till it sagged on one side a couple of moths later.
I warped the springs so I got the origin springs got them retention. One leaf added and the load carrying Leafs taken out. it is a bit hard but it dose not sagg.

I beat on mine for about a year until it smoothed out. I also took the load leafs out of the back. It's a good lift for those who dont take it eazy. I think i have pics of my suzuki hitting a jump and getting about 6 feet of air 8). Just truss the axles and have no mercy.
