toyota axles
« on: November 25, 2005, 05:27:48 PM »
i have  an 1984 toyota pickup 5speed and i would like to use the axles out of it to put into my samurai but i have a few questions first

1. will they fit in with the rest of the samurai drive terrain?

2. what gears are in there stock?

3.with them being longer then stock samurai axles do you have to run longer fender flares so they are legal?

thanks
cody

I can't help you on your question but may be you answer one for me ?

I looked at a 82 minitruck the other day and the rear diff had a centered pumpkin is the 84 the same ?

In fact are all the yota diff's centered ?

This site might help you work out the ratio's http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/#front

Gear ratio is between 3.58 to 5.29
the toyota surf and toyota landcruiser prados have off center diffs
plus the prado has a hi pinon front diff.
you will need same sort of Toyota / Suzuki Driveshaft adaptor.

i am going to use toyota diffs in my sj with a center diff an 4.88 r&p
was going to do my own coil set up but went with the rro coil kit
because a needed to crack test the suspension arms.

Stock gears are likely 4.10.  Yes the toy axles are center diff, but you can use the Front CV driveshaft on the rear to help offset the vibration issue.   The biggest issue I had was matching up the Front springs to the perches on the Toy axles.  The width is 1.5" difference.  I just used the Trail tough YJ swap and let that take up the difference.  It works, but puts more strain on the Spring bushings.  As far as matching up the drivetrain, rockrat makes a good adapter that mates the sammy and toy drivetrains.

Here are pictures I took when I did my swap last winterhttp://photobucket.com/albums/v465/bhaugen/Toy%20Axle%20Swap/
