Looking at snowplows for this winter for my 97 4 door.

Anyone have any experience on which plow it better, how much snow a kick can push, mechanical problems to look out for?

Pushing snow is a weight game, and
a Kick only weighs 2500 Lb, so I don't
think a very big plow will work, but anything
is better than shoveling

if ur truck is an auto id be weary about pushing to much snow..remember snow weighs alot more then it looks like

thats why they say if u have any heart problems or are even the slightest bit out of shape u really shouldnt shovel snow

I have run plows on rigs for years, meyers used to sell a lexan plow blade for lite rigs but they cost a bunch, costco sells a cheap blade that is ok and does not weigh that much,  the problem with most guys rigs is how they plow, they try to compact the snow in a pile by ramming it so it is like getting in a wreck every time you hit the pile hard, that is how you bend frames, the longer your frame the more it bends in the center, if your pushing powder that is no problem and your doing your own yard where you know where stuff is so you do not hit any stumps or cement steps you will be ok,the front of a track or kick has the frame so that it will collapse in a wreck so I would add on a mount that goes back underneath the rig by the middle of the rig and weld a bracket or cross member and put rubber mounts on the bars running forward to the plow mount, that should help with the weak frame in the front!

A lot of the snow we get here in Newfoundland is the wet stuff . . . not much powder.  I did a 1 yr search, but nothing really to add.  Tks for the tip though.

I was considering one of those "plastic" plows instead of steel to save on the weight.


Would a Samuri be better than a Kick?  I may be able to get a beater (not road worthy) and a used plow and be into it for less than $1500 canadian.


What should I look out for in a late 80's samuri?

You could add a bunch of sand bags to the
beater, like 250 Lbs in each seat, plus your
weight at say 180-200 Lbs a sammy would
weigh in at like 3400-3500 Lbs, that would
push some snow, but I think you will need
at least a rear locker to keep from spinning
tires in the snow

Any time you could have a stand alone plow unit I would go for it! for a plow rig in a samurai a 1986 or newer would have stronger axels, you could weld the rear spider gears for posi and fill the rear tires with antifreeze and only run chains in the rear unless your into fixing front end parts, if you get the samurai keep it low to the ground like stock so you have a better plow angle and keep the tire diamater small for power with the stock gears, get some custom made chains from truck chains if you have a tire spining problem, have fun!

Hi Guys I just installed a snowplow on my 1996 sidekick. It took 2 of us most of a day with air tools and a lift if we were more experienced we probally could of done it in a shorter time. The plow is from snowbear and is a really nice setup. it weighs in at about 250 lbs. uses a superwinch to lower and raise and to angle is a real easy manual pull handle. I bought the light kit, skids, & snow deflector as extras total kit cost $1492.00 US shipped. The blade is steel galvenized the frame is powder coated. comes with wheeled stand and blade markers standard. The sidekick has no lift or extras on suspension the plow does not lower frontend much I run 215 TA KO tires and they don't rub with plow up. rides great!!! Wire kit is fast and easy. I have not plowed with it yet NO SNOW!!! ......Week before I got it I had to Pay to have drive plowed now that I have plow no snow...Stay tuned when it snows I'll let you know how it does

A friend of mine plowed snow with samurai's for years, he had 2 of them, just upgraded to fuel injection. He bought a 6.5' Meyers electric/hydraulic, at the time they made a kit for it. He had done a SPOA(extra leaf up front to support more weight),welded rear on both and they were his best mods for not getting hung up/stuck in deep snow. He did better than most guys with their HEAVY full size trucks with HEAVY 9' plows, and he could turn around in tight spaces. It was an excellent plow machine.  I've wanted to put one on my tracker, but the IFS and strange front end frame design puts a hold on it. I've been thinking about getting a snowbear and cutting it down to 6', they have a mount kit.
