I currently own a 2001 vitara with a 2.0 litre engine.

I'm thinking of buying a small tralier this spring to go camping and might trade the vitara for a Grand vitara.

my question is there a big difference in gas milage.I know the EPA ratings but would like to know what u guys are getting.

Also is there a big difference in power between the 2 engines.

Like to buy a small featherweight tralier (not a tent trailer)  what size could i go with if i had the v6?

I'm getting about 19-21mpg pretty consistently.  I have heard of people getting up to 23mpg, so I think part of my problem is California smog equipment and a crappy ethanol fuel mixture. 

I test drove a 2.0L and 2.5L when I bought mine, and I noticed a quit a difference with the V6.  It brings the car to life.  Don't forget, if you get a 2002+ model then Suzuki has already installed a larger exhaust system to give you +10hp

As far as towing limits, I'm not completely sure.  It is rated at 1500lbs, but I have always thought that is very low.  The engine could definately handle more than that.  I'm not sure if the suspension, or brakes would need to be upgraded, or if the engineers just wanted to be conservative on the tow rating.  I believe in Australia the GV is allowed to tow up to 3000 lbs.

I get 22 normally, though on road trips I go as high as 25.

I have a 2001 GV with the 2.5 and 29" bfg and heavy rims and heaviest i towed was

5 People in the truck and some gear 1000 Lbs and a ski-doo trailer and 2 sleds which would be around 1800lbs and i had no prob u notice the lack of torque of the 2.5 going up hills.

in the summer when I don't have to run it so long and don't have to drive through snow I usually get nearly 23 mpg in town with my 2.5. I am pretty sure a non austrailian GV would handle 3k as well, my granpa's XL 7 is rated for it, it's probably only rated for 1500 because of the short wheel base.. also I have moved 2 snowmobiles on a trailer around my driveway with it and it doesn't even come close to straining it.. one of our trailers hardly sags it at all and the other sags it big time. if you have a well balanced trailer 3000 pounds easy I bet, I just wouldn't try hauling those snowmobliles up an icy hill with my short wheel base. my dad said our aluminum snowmobile trailer was about 1200 to 1300 pounds empty and I hauled it down the road empty and the mighty GV drove like it wasn't there..yea

Thinking of getting a v6 myself, as we have bigger gallons it looks like I should expect about 27mpg, not bad as it is the same as my saab 9-5 and my old 1.6 GV on 31"s, nice and cheap over here now too, can get a 99 or 00 for around £3000 UKP

UK gallons are 20% bigger than US gallons 4.5 litres to 3.8
