G13A Block Question
« on: March 08, 2006, 10:44:41 AM »
I am rebuilding the engine in my Sammy and noticed the Aluminum portion of the Block is cracked between cylinders 2 and 3.  The Liner is not cracked at all, but where the two bores are seimesed, the aluminum is cracked.

Would you folks suggest I scrap the block or go ahead and use it??

SCRAP IT! SCRAP IT! SCRAP IT! the alum. blocks take ALOT of stress with heat expantion and cool down contraction not to mention the rotational tourqe loads are unbelievably high. ive got SEVERAL of these blocks if you need one.

I would have to agree. Get rid of the paper weight and start fresh.   8)

Pics, are you sure it's a crack and
not a casting seam? I've seen casting
marks that look bad, but are nothing

Attached is a picture of the crack between cylinders 2 and 3.

Head Gasket was not bad, but rings were shot, that is why I tore it down.

Yep, big crack in it allright

I bet it doesn't run deep, but if you could
get another block, I would replace it, OR
just get a ring set and run it.

That's exactly what happened to my 1.6lt 8v. So I'm going to 16v.

Maybe someday I will weld this thing, or you think it doesn't worth?
