Okay, I thought my '96 had 4.62's but now I'm hearing 4.30's.  Anyone know for sure?

Goodness.. why all the confusion.. jack the thing up and spin and count.. there is a full third of a driveshaft revolution between the two...

Quaddawg, you must be better at that than me. I have tried that a few times but with open differentials it sucks. Do you hold one still or rotate them both the same? I end up with all kinds of different numbers from 3.42 to 6.11.  :-[ Or if you rotate it by the driveshaft does it keep things consistant. I think I rotated to tires.??? All I know is my count was different every time.

AJMBLAZER, you have enough lift on that thin you might be able to put chalk marks on the pinion flange and tire and lay under it an roll it. That would move both rear wheels together and let you count. Just dont run yourself over.  :P

BTW-Some of the data that I have shows that the 5.12:1 gears were in both MT and AT rigs by the mid '90s. That might only apply to 4 door models though.

ah, open diff.. never thought about that.. lol.

generally if you lift both rear wheels, and spin the drive shaft.. both wheels will turn, but you can get varying results if they aren't turning exactly equally.

SO... leave one tire on the ground and spin the driveshaft and count the turns to spin the one tire, twice.

If I am wrong someone lets me know.. but with one tire stuck, the other spins twice as fast.. so you would have to spin the tire twice.

To be sure, you could have a friend make sure both tires are in the air, and spinning at the exact same time... I guess open diffs ARE tricky.. LOL...

I am pretty sure it is the leave one on the ground and spin the tire twice thing though..

Shredder, any 1.6L Tracker or Kick with the 4 speed OD auto trans or 5 speed OD manual trans got 5.12 gears.  The confusion seems to be the 3 speed autos where they seemed to get 4.62 gears...for most of the years.  96 was the last year of the 3 speed (in the 2 doors, left earlier in the 4 doors) and some info and people say 4.30's while other people say 4.62's.  Either way I'm putting 5.12's in but I'm trying to find out for a guy that is interested in the 3rds out of the Tracker.

No offence speedracer but I think I'm siding with Sean on this one.  I still haven't seen any documented evidence that in '96 the 3 speed got the 4.62's.  I have seen stuff that said it got 4.30's.

Gotta go with Sean DeVinney too.  He deals with this on a daily basis.

I played "spin the bottle"with five 3-speed automatic 2-door trackers at a junkyard recently and came up with a front 4.625 R&P set.

There is a specs page here at ZukiWorld and, I think, at Offroad.com's Suzuki Page (not the Forum!).

Check them out!
