Need help clearing my LTB's
« on: March 28, 2006, 05:32:24 PM »
OK, I'm finally putting 33's on my samurai and I've got some questions:

1)  I'm currently running a sky MFG SPOA with 1" lift shackles for about 5.5" of lift.   I'm currently rollin on 31x12.5" Thornturds on 15x10" rims with (I believe) 3.75" offset along w/ 1.25" Spacers.   I get a little rub on the springs at full lock as it is though I think thats mostly just the thorns.  I just bought a set of 33x13.5x15 swamper LTB's.  I'm either going to run these current rims&spacers and install steering stops using the adjusters on the Tracker steering arm I'm using OR Run 15x8" rims w/ about 3.75" offset and the spacers.  Which will keep the LTB's off the springs better?  What is the perfect width and total offset for 33" LTB's???

2) I'm also thinking suspension and was considering Rear to fron conversion in the front.  I've already got the axle moved forward 1" using a 1" offset hole in the spring pad.  I want to make it 1.5 - 2".  How far forward does the rocky-road style rear hanger produce if I leave out the offset spring pad plate (using the centered hole on the spring pad)  Can I get 1.5 - 2" forward movement without mounting the axle more than 1" off the stock mounting possition on the pad?
Also, how much lift will this conversion produce so I can be prepared to match the rear height.
Any nessacery clearance I don't get from that conversion and relocation  would be gained with a Sawzall.

3) Second suspension option would be going with a set of Trail-tough Bonz-eye springs.  Does anyone have experience w/ these springs?  How do the ride and how tough are they?

Thanks for any help you guys can give!

I'm running 33's with 8" rims 2" back space, rears up front axel moved one inch forward, rubs at full stuff just a little, a guy in the club runs 33x13.5 ltb's with 10" and 1.25 spacers with yj's,t.t. missing links,Works good, you can get new 6 pack yj's from t.t. for 60.00 ea. he makes a nice kit and so does sky. my rear is stock and clears just fine. hope this helps.
