Going to Las Vages....Were can I off road at???
« on: April 25, 2006, 05:59:43 PM »
I will be traveling to Las Vages soon and would like to do a bit of off roading for a day or so.  I will have a stock jeep.  So nothing to crazy.  Just would like to see some of the sites away from the casinos.

Is the drive out to Death Valley cool or should I look at something else.  So chime in and give me some help.  I have a GPS so I should be able to find just about anything.  Just remember nothing to wild.  Just a day with the wife out in the mnts or desert.

Thanks for any help

This is the time of year to do Death Valley,
BUT take all the regular food and water, it
is a very unpredictable place.

There is or was a las vegas jeep club that has a web site (they saved my butt a few times) and also another large club that has runs over by baker, my fav is dumont dunes just west of baker and the surrounding area (mines with free cabins and stuff, pop your hood and hook up the lights to your battery leave it as you found it type) a lot of cool washes power lines dunes flat stuff rocks ect, lookup the desert megaphone and try to find it! just be carefull and do not go to fast out there (air lifting is spendy if they find you) and you can head into death valley from there also (and stay out of the small dunes by the hwy in the park (don't ask)get a good map and book and go for it, it's all good.

I've done alot of racing and exploring around the Pahrump area. Lots of desert and mountains to explore and play on. It's only about a 1.5 hour drive from Vegas.

I was kind of thinking that the term off-road is just about everything other than Las Vegas itself?  Just sort of leave the city, turn left, get lost ought to just about do it.

Its not that easy, the BLM will lock you up in a heart beat if you just go tearing through the desert. You must stay on existing unimproved roads.

I like the rule of natural selection.  You go wheelin in the desert, you die, you dont go wheelin in the desert anymore.  Less vehicles in the desert.  Keeps the numbers down without the Fed getting involved.  and yea, Nukes work too!

Well we are back from Vagas.  I rented a new chevy 4x4 trailblazer and put over 150 miles on it off the road.  We did go out around lake mead and through the vally of fire and over to mt. charlston.  We just took every dirt path that we thought we could make it down.
