OIL seal replacement
« on: March 19, 2006, 02:56:59 AM »
ok, after recovering from a drowning incident...

... i am now the new owner of...

leaking front main seal
leaking rear main seal
leaking front pinion seal
leaking rear pinion seal
a leak from the top of the gearbox

now, what the easiest way to do the engine main seals? do i need to pull the motor? i dont want to... and i know i need to drop the gearbox, not wanting to either.

so? easy ways? or shortcuts?

thanks

front seal can be done in truck, the rear will
require dropping the trans or pulling the engine,
the rear main is a one piece type, and there is
a rear cover it fits into, I think there are 6x10mm
bolts that hold the cover on, and a gasket behind
that, you are also going to have to remove the
clutch and flywheel to get to it, so have an impact
available to make removal of those bolts easy.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, there is no easy
way to change the rear main seal. Keep the orientation
of the flywheel and the related parts where it bolts to
the crank, those bolts are not evenly spaced, but it's
not obvious either, one bolt will be a thread off, and you
will curse the day you pulled that thing off if you don't mark
it with something.

Good Luck

Hey Wild, looks like I need to change the rear pinion seal.  So far I have not found good instructions on how to do it.  I might just have it done since I may not have the time for it, especally if it is very involved.
Thanks

Many repair shops wont even attempt the rear seal because of warranty issues. This is the case for alot of vehicles not just Suzukis.

I ve inquired about getting the rear seals done on a few of my old Jeeps and every shop said they wouldn't warranty any of their work.

Maby try and find a replacement Engine

Good luck

I mean rear end pinion seal.  I checked the oil level.....oops sombody put their coffee and cream in there :(  How did that get in there?  The seal has to be ordered no matter where I get it, so it may as well be hawk.  I hope that is all that is wrong.  Didn't some one a while back, talk about diffrent gear oil viscosities to use in the winter?  I drained and changed the oil tonight on the rear, it was a little low, but it sure splattered all over the back end.
