local shop's telling me 235/75r15's will rub...
« on: October 23, 2006, 07:35:20 PM »
well i went to get some 235/75r15's today but the guys at the shop told me they'd probably rub after sitting them up against the stockers i have on now and comparing them.?.?   ??? i have a 2" inch lift via spring spacers and it looks to me like it should just clear the back of the front fender but they're telling me when i go to turn it might rub... any input here would be great...

If you are using stock steel rims or alloy rims they will rub slightly at full lock.  the rubbing will be along the inside edge of the tread against the tubular frame inside the wheel well at the rear of the wheel well.  It wont affect performance or safety because you dont drive at any speed over about idle at full lock.   the rubbing is minor and with a 2" lift may be even less than I had with exactly the same set up with no lift.  It caused me no concern at all and I got the same feedback from everyone I talked to who had the same set up.

Mine didn't rub with stock Samurai rims, they have 1/2" less backspacing than Tracker rims.
3.75 vs. 4.25 - Seems like just the right amount to keep them off the frame.

mine cleared perfectly with no lift at all. 2" lift will easily clear with room to spare.

Just tell them to mount them!!
when I had the Calmini 6"inch lift, the off-road shop wouldn't mount the 32"s.
To solve this problem
I called ahead and had them mount and balance the tires.
Then I drove there and had them put them on.
They wouldn't.
So I said, No mounting, no buying   ;)
They got mounted ;D
They rubbed alittle bit.
Trimmed when I got home.

Just installed the 2" body lift, 2.5" back spaced rims from RRO, and 235/75/15 mud terrain tires on my 96 Tracker ;D. These tires do rub slightly at full lock ::). Took a air hammer to the edge of the fender and pushed/rolled it back about 1/4 inch and have had no problems since ;).

I have factory alloy wheels on my stock 95 4 door JLX.  The 235's have had for about a year have never rubbed.  I saw some old snow tires, 235s, with worn out studds in them, and looked about a inch taller than mine.  So there may be a diffrence in some of them.

On my old sidekick, I ran 235/75s on aftermarket 15x7 wheels....I had to add a 3" bodylift to clear them.  Once I did, I never had a problem with them rubbing.
