My new air intake
« on: November 13, 2006, 11:49:37 PM »
I just got this put together last week.  One of my buddies at the local parts house gave me the filter.  I bought a J-bend of exhast tube, the silicone connector and had a local metal shop laser cut a piece of steel to the proper size to fit over the steel tube and with an outside diameter of 4" to fit the tube that the mouth of the air filter fits over.  Well I must say that the intake side of things seems to be breathing better now.  I can feel that I have more reserve power at hiway speeds and it comes in handy when I need to pass some one.  I think that I have a total of about $40.00 into this set up.

Yeah, the filter is huge but it was free.  I really liked that.  The exhaust tube was mandrel bent so it has a nice smooth radius that wouldn't cause a disruption of the air flow.  Couldn't think of another way to get the tubing that I wanted, although I did have to scrub the inside to get the grease that they used when they bent the pipe out.  Now I just need to get it powdercoated.

good loard that filter looks HUGE!! hahah very nice looking, dosnt even look like you made it.  You could always throw on a "G sleeve" to keep the pipe from heating up from the engine heat.  Some people swear by them and say they are the best, but on the other hand some people say they are a joke.  hahha but i guess people do that to everything that is made.  So again, very nice intake.

Thanks Amilla!!  I'm actually going to have it ceramic coated next spring.  The shop that does my powdercoating will be starting to do ceramic coatings at that time.  Maybe I can get it done at a discount if it's a guinea pig for them.  We'll see.  In the mean time I need to get some paint on it so that it doesn't rust.  I'll post more pictures when I get that done.
