Is it making the clunk in 4wd or 2wd, or both?
If it were a U-joint, I'm thinking it would do it in 4wd(hubs locked) only. Suspension related would be both.
Check the strut extensions, lower ball joints.
it clunked until I made a spacer for between the top of the differential and the little ball joint that attaches it too the frame.
