1.6L Rods
« on: December 05, 2006, 05:45:26 PM »
How much stress (pressure) can the 1.6L rods take?  I have a 1.6 I have torn apart and the rods don't look that strong.  I know Pauter (CA) builds HD rods for the 1.6 -- almost $800 a set.  My budget is way short of that mark but would make a hefty bottom end.

Will the stock rods take 150hp?  12:1 comp? ;D

Good Question!
I know that 93+ rods are stronger, and in 92 there was a mix of old and new.

I've seen a few snapped rods so I'll guess that they're not all that strong, one was def. a 92 though. It would be a good idea to have them shot peened.
What are the differences between 93 and earlier?

 ;D  I have a '95 & '96 1.6L -- you are saying these rods are stronger??  Will they handle 150 -180hp? No Turbo & No Gas -- naturally aspirated.....possible??
